Student Activities

The Jedlíkova 9 dormitories are student homes for FEI students and EkF TUKE students. They are part of the Jedlíkova university dormitory complex. The dormitories are located in the Luník VIII housing estate, near the Optima and Kaufland shopping centers. A standard dormitory room is divided into two cells, which include a bathroom (toilet and bathroom with a bathtub) and a hallway with storage cabinets and a refrigerator. Each cell is designed for two students, and each of the accommodated students has a bed, a bedside table, a shelf, a cabinet with shelves and a desk. The Jedlíkova 9 dormitories have undergone extensive reconstruction. Two blocks, block C and block D, which contain above-standard rooms, have been reconstructed. They are equipped with new furniture, and the bathtub has been replaced by a shower. The advantage of those accommodated at Jedlíkova 9 is the immediate proximity of the school cafeteria, gymnasiums, laundry, modernly equipped fitness rooms and a number of interesting locations created for students. The student clubs Rádio9, Študentská televízia, PC Klub operate in the dormitories under the auspices of the Student Council. The possibilities of active use of free time are supported by the Student Council, which, together with the clubs, organizes a large number of social and sports events such as knowledge quizzes, volleyball tournaments or the organization of student balls. Current accommodation prices at the Jedlíkova 9 dormitory can be found at https://intrak.sk

Student Television is one of the few student clubs of its kind in Slovakia, founded in 1989. It is located in the dormitories at Jedlíkova 9, block A, where several rooms were remodeled and renovated into the form we know it today. The studio, editing room, and new technology are all located in the premises of the student television. The television's program structure is very diverse. It brings not only entertainment and journalism, such as the Gaming Night event, podcasts, or various promo videos, but also current news from the school and dormitories in the form of DJ Žjuz, or various reports from events such as Days of Opportunity or Open House, which we record on our YouTube channel or on our Instagram. Student Television also achieved success at the international film festival held in Sanok, Poland in 2006. If you are interested in audiovisual technology, want to improve your skills in video editing, camera work, or are interested in the position of a reporter, then student television is the place where you can express and develop your creativity. Student TV provides a space where you can meet new people who share similar interests. We cooperate mainly with the Student Council Jedlíková 9 and TUKE. If you decide to join student television, you can look forward to interesting projects, gaining new experiences and, above all, good fun and an atmosphere among your peers. And who knows, maybe thanks to your work in student television you will be able to discover your talent and find contacts and acquaintances in professional media.

PC Club is a volunteer organization composed of students who manage the dormitory network within all TUKE Dormitories. It was established in 1997, and the first people who could witness the growth of this organization were students at the Jedlíkova 9 dormitory. Over the years, the network has undergone several changes until it reached the point we know it today. Nowadays, speeds reach 10 Gbps thanks to the optical connection with the Slovak academic network - SANET. Nowadays, the entire infrastructure is built on active elements from CISCO. These devices, of course, require appropriate management. In addition to device management, we also try to introduce new technologies used in network architectures in order to increase the quality of connection for network users and simplify network management for administrators. Many of our members, both current and former, currently work in renowned companies, where they apply the knowledge gained through their work for our club. PC Club, as one of the largest clubs operating alongside the Student Council, as well as within TUKE itself, has a rich membership base, to which it annually accepts a number of high-quality and motivated people who want to learn something. We offer our members work on one of the largest and best-built dormitory computer networks in Slovakia. Our members work in various positions such as Technician, System Administrator or Programmer, within which they can improve their skills and knowledge and prepare for work in the IT industry. PC Club, as a partner or guarantor, also participates in the implementation of several projects, both in the area of expanding the computer network (covering cable connections, covering WiFi signals, etc.), but also in the area of development and education in the activities we are engaged in. In the near future, we are preparing to launch projects focused on dockerization, implementing a number of microservices, and restoring outdated systems within our infrastructure, as well as building a new technical laboratory in the Jedlíkova 9 dormitory, where students could gain new knowledge through courses led by experts from practice, as well as gain practical experience with configuring the devices themselves.

The University Pastoral Center (UPC) in Košice is a community of young people - priests and their collaborators. The goal of the UPC is the spiritual care of young people studying at universities in Košice. At the initiative of the students themselves, on December 15, 1998, Mons. Alojz Tkáč, Archbishop of Košice, established the University Pastoral Center of the Holy Martyrs of Košice. Since then, the life of this center has been constantly developing. The UPC is located at Rooseveltova 12 in Košice. Its premises include a tea room, an office, a classroom with a library and a chapel, which are always open to all students. The young people are cared for by university priests, who also regularly visit individual dormitories. At the same time, they are also helped by many student volunteers. These are primarily student coordinators, who are the "extended hands" of university priests in the dormitories, but also many others, thanks to whom social networks function, there is a university choir, and many small spiritual communities live. Within the entire UPC, there are university Holy Masses on Mondays in the seminary church at Hlavná 81, followed by a varied program - a quiz evening, a calçet tournament, a theological evening, various lectures and many other activities. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are reserved for service in the dormitories in individual dormitories communities. On Thursdays, young people meet at UPC for Holy Mass, after which they spend time in the tearoom or participate in other activities that take place at UPC. What does the program of the community at Jedlíkova look like? Every Wednesday at 8:00 PM, there is a dormitories Holy Mass in the premises at Jedlíkova 7. From 7:00 PM there is an opportunity to confess or just chat. Before holidays like Easter and Christmas there are longer confessions for all who are interested. After Holy Mass we often stay to chat, or we plan some activity in advance. Sometimes we go to the gym, where we play volleyball or play board games, or we go outside the dormitory and go bowling. During Lent we also had the Stations of the Cross around the dormitories on Jedlíková.

In 2000, the Jedlíkova 9 dormitory became the headquarters of a student radio station, which was renamed RÁDIO 9 by changing the brand ŠTUDER, which had been operating at TUKE for over 20 years. Today it operates as a club of the Jedlíkova 9 Student Council -- RÁDIO 9 -- Student Internet Radio. The originally small group launched projects to renew the technology and the broadcasting itself. The broadcasting structure became increasingly progressive, with experimental broadcasting over the air, etc. The members of the radio station gradually changed, and with them the premises of Rádi 9 itself. In 2005, the broadcasting studio was first renovated, followed by the recording studio the following year. The broadcasting studio was renovated again in 2019, when the technology with which the radio station members can work was updated. In addition to the broadcasting and recording studio, Radio 9 also has sound equipment, DJ equipment, and disco lighting, which improve the quality of work of the radio members and allow them to implement ever better and larger projects. Radio 9 broadcasts from Sunday to Wednesday during the semester, always in the evening hours according to the program structure. The shows are oriented towards various musical styles from techno to pop to metal. The guests in the broadcast are professors with whom we talk about their latest research, successful people from practice or well-known but also budding musicians on the Slovak scene. The radio also creates various radio games and recordings of the broadcast with guests are added to the YouTube of student television in the form of podcasts. In addition to its regular program, it provides sound for dormitory and school events, discos, balls, concerts, celebrations, etc. Radio 9 cooperates with the Student Council of Jedlíkova 9, as well as with non-student organizations, agencies, various companies, and cultural institutions in Košice, and provides space for advertising and promotion. All current information about Student Internet Radio -- Radio 9 can be found on our Facebook and Instagram pages.
